A clearing in the woods......
A clearing in the woods was coming overhead. My legs were pumping and moving as fast as they could carry me. I swung my arms back and forth to keep my pace, to keep going. The back of my legs screamed in protest, but I just ran against them as hard as I could. Blood was pounding through my ears and in my head. A bead of sweat dripped down my forehead along my hairline. There was a group of people swarming around the runners screaming encouraging words to keep us running and to not stop . Behind me I could hear deep heavy breathing wheezing in and out constantly. Hearing her and now knowing how close she was behind me, this made me run up and go faster. Screams were echoing through the grassy ground and trees all around me. I just had to keep going, to not give up. Then I stepped across the line and was finished, I was done. All of the girls around me were bending down and trying to catch their breath. Little puffs of hard labored breaths escaped my mouth making me go to a nearby bench and sit down to wait.

I really liked this piece. The way you described the feeling of running, and hearing the runner behind you, and pushing on so you could finish the race really drew me in.
