Mummy

I was dying. The life was being sucked out of me day by day.  I was suffering and just wanted it to end. My life was stretching out too far for me to bear.
I was standing by the edge of the water.  The Nile stretched farther than any eyes could see.  Golden sand flecked in my hair sparkled against my dark hair.  I stared at my reflection seeing my dying completion.  My skin was a washed out color and my hair even was fading.
The cold hands of death grasped me.  For I felt weak and my eyes could only see darkness.  I felt my body falling into the water.  I was choking but I was frozen and could not move my body.   For my final wish was given to me.

I did not have my peace for long.  Soon, I could feel someone pulling me out of the water and screaming.  They tried to revive me, but it was too late.  The sound of weeping filled my ears and they lifted me up and carried me for a short amount of time.

I was laid down on a cold slab of stone in a dark musty room.  Confused, I felt cold hands preparing me for burial.  They tugged at my skin and wrapped my body in cloth.  The room was soon lingering with the soft smells of exotic spices and of dust.  Several hands lifted me up and lowered me into some kind of container.  A lid was placed on top and I felt myself moving again.  I knew this was my final journey to my eternal resting place.

  1. Gruesome...and yet I'd love to hear the details of Egyptian organ-removal.
My favorite line: "The cold hands of death grasped me." Love the personification!

  2. This was interesting and you had great details in this piece, but if you don't mind me asking what motivated you to write this piece?

  3. That was amazing! You had very detailed description in the beginning and I liked your reference to the real world, "The Nile stretched farther than any eyes could see."

  4. I love this. In the beginning part of the piece I didn't really understand what was going on, but without actually saying what the piece was about in the text, I could tell what was really going on.
